Congratulations on a great inaugural Winter Music Festival! We have received so many kind words about the concert and your performance. We have a few updates and things to keep on your radar as we head into winter break. I hope everyone gets some rests, enjoys time with family, and practices their instrument :)

8th Grade Family Meeting/2025 Show Reveal — 1/16 7p at Scioto
This meeting is to help 8th grade families learn about the Dublin Scioto Band and all the opportunities they will have as members of the band prior to scheduling. Current Scioto Band members in grades 9-11 should attend this meeting. You will have time to meet your new section members, play your instruments, and learn a stand tune to perform for the 8th grade families. At the end of the meeting, we will reveal the 2025 marching band show!
Solo & Ensemble — 1/25 at Pleasant View MS
Solo & Ensemble is a voluntary opportunity for students to showcase their abilities by performing a solo on their instrument or by performing in a small group. Performances are evaluated by OMEA judges and students are given a rating, just like marching band competition.
Fees
$21 — Solo
$26 — Ensemble (this is the total cost. The $26 is split between all members of the ensemble)
Checks should be made payable to Dublin Music Boosters. Cash must be turned in directly to Mr. Doherty in a labeled and sealed envelope. No change.
Ensembles
Ensembles are responsible for rehearsing their music independently.
All ensembles are required to meet with Mr. Doherty or Ms. Aubihl twice before solo and ensemble. Sign-ups will be posted soon!
Soloists
Soloists, register for your solo using this link.
Registrations are due by 12/23
Soloists are required to take private lessons or receive special permission from Mr. Doherty in order to perform at S&E.
Soloists will need to perform their solo with an accompanist. Soloists are also responsible for scheduling rehearsals with their accompanist. If you need help finding one, contact Mr. Doherty after you select your solo.
All soloists are required to perform scales before their solo. Scales are assigned based on what class solo you prepare. Please carefully read this document to ensure you are practicing the correct scales. I have also included a chart that helps clarify some of the scale requirements. All scales should be played 80-120 bpm using our scale sheet.
Snare drum soloists are required to perform two rudiments. Please follow the link above for more information.
